FAQs
What if I can't come to 1 or more days of tryouts?
Contact Coach Brooke and she will find a way for you to tryout. We would like to see all athletes attend a minimum of 4 out of 8 of the tryout clinics. However, if this is not possible, please let Coach Brooke know. We want everyone to be able to try out and be part of this amazing program!
What if I have never cheered before? Should I tryout?
Absolutely! We love taking new athletes and teaching them how to be cheerleaders.
Do you make cuts?
We do not typically make cuts if athletes have the minimum skill requirements and have the right attitude and work ethic. However, just because you have the skill requirements for a team does not mean that you will make that team. We are looking for the best athletes for each team and want to ensure that we put each athlete on the team that you can grow and improve on the most.
Do you have a maximum number of athletes that can make each team?
No! We can take as many athletes as we want in the program and on each team. We do consider skill level and stunting position when creating teams and make sure teams have the right number of athletes to be successful.
What are the requirements to make the Freshman team?
The Freshman team does not have any skill requirements to make the team. We just expect athletes that are willing to work hard, are coachable and have a great attitude! However, we do not always have the numbers for a Freshman team. In that case, all freshman would be considered for the JV team.
What are the requirements to make the JV team?
If we have the numbers for a freshman team, then the JV team does have a few skill requirements to make the team. We would expect that JV athletes at minimum have a right leg backwalkover by themselves, have a backhandspring on your own or with a light spot, have both their left and right splits, have strong jumps, motions and performance. Of course, we always look for athletes with a positive attitude and those willing to work hard! If we do not have the numbers for a Freshman team, then there will not be any skill requirements for the JV team.
What are the requirements to make the Varsity team?
In order to make the Varsity team, athletes are required to have a right leg backwalkover and backhandspring on their own and willing to throw on any surface. We also require that every athlete have a standing backtuck, backhandspring backtuck and/or cartwheel backtuck in order to make Varsity. In addition, elite level jumps, motions, and performance along with right and left leg splits are required. Flyers looking to make Varsity should have all of the following mastered with their left leg: heelstretch, front stretch, bow 'n arrow, scale, scorpion. All athletes should be able to compete at an elite level with a mentally tough, positive attitude and willing to work hard.
Can Freshman make the Varsity team?
In past seasons, a small amount of freshman have made the Varsity team, however it is not expected. Freshman should expect to be considered for the Freshman and JV teams first. There is a lot of material and techniques that you have to learn as a new high school athlete and Freshman will learn more efficiently if they are on the Freshman or JV team where the material and techniques are focused on more. Varsity athletes are expected to already know the material and techniques therefore there is not a huge focus on the basics.
When will team placements be announced?
We will announce team placements the last day of tryouts.
What if I have a vacation planned during the summer practices?
That's ok! Summer practices during June and July are required if you are in town but if you have vacation plans, you will not be penalized for missing. Enjoy your summer and vacation! We do ask that you make every effort to attend your team camp and the practices the week of camp as those are very important and you will miss a lot if you are not there.
When do mandatory practices begin?
Practices are mandatory starting Monday, August 12th and absences will cause athletes to sit at games. Please schedule all vacations earlier in the summer or on weekends to make sure you are able to attend all practices when mandatory practices begin, however please avoid scheduling anything during the week before and the week of camp. The calendar below shows all scheduled practices and games for the season. The schedule is subject to change.
